The Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) Public Relations Department has issued an urgent commuter advisory regarding scheduled roadworks on one of Lebanon’s busiest coastal transit corridors.
A local non-governmental organization is set to carry out extensive pothole repair and asphalt resurfacing operations tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The maintenance work will target the southbound lane (towards Beirut) of the highway, stretching from Casino du Liban down to the Nahr el Kalb tunnel.
Work Schedule and Peak Traffic Impact
According to the ISF statement, the maintenance operations are scheduled to begin at 6:00 AM and will run continuously until 4:00 PM (16:00).
Because this vital coastal artery consistently experiences heavy traffic volumes—particularly during peak morning commuting hours—the scheduled works are highly expected to cause severe traffic bottlenecks and delays for vehicles heading toward the capital.
ISF Guidelines for Commuters:
The Internal Security Forces urge all motorists to take note of the scheduled times, exercise caution, and strictly adhere to the instructions of traffic officers deployed along the route. Commuters are also advised to closely follow temporary directional traffic signage to facilitate a smooth flow of vehicles and prevent gridlock.
A Critical Transit Route
This maintenance initiative aims to repair deteriorating road conditions on the primary coastal highway north of Beirut. The stretch of road between Jounieh’s Casino du Liban and the Nahr el Kalb tunnel serves as the main transit bottleneck for thousands of daily commuters traveling from the Byblos (Jbeil) and Keserwan districts into Beirut.
Drivers are strongly advised to plan their commutes ahead of time, expect significant delays, or seek alternative routes where possible during the ten-hour maintenance window.
