Mohamed Salah scored one goal and assisted another as Egypt staged a dramatic comeback to defeat New Zealand 3-1 in Vancouver, Canada, securing their first-ever FIFA World Cup victory in their fourth tournament appearance.

Egypt suffered an early setback in the 15th minute when Finn Surman opened the scoring for New Zealand with a precise header, capitalizing on a clinical corner kick delivered from the left flank by Tim Payne.
New Zealand pushed hard and squandered several clear-cut opportunities to double their lead both before and after the opening goal. However, Egypt’s goalkeeper, Mostafa Shobeir, stood tall, pulling off three spectacular first-half saves to keep the Pharaohs alive. Egypt’s sole dangerous opportunity during the first half came in the 27th minute when Omar Marmoush unleashed a powerful strike that required a two-touch save from New Zealand keeper Max Crocombe.
A Dramatic Second-Half Shift
The Pharaohs emerged as a completely revitalized side in the second half. Mostafa Abdel Rauf, widely known as “Ziko,” struck the equalizer in the 58th minute with a brilliant header from inside the box, converting an accurate right-wing cross from Mohamed Hany.
In the 67th minute, Mohamed Salah fired Egypt into the lead. The star forward capped off a fluid, organized team attack by latching onto a clever backheel pass from Ziko inside the box, clinical side-footing the ball into the back of the net. Substitute Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” then sealed the historic victory in the 82nd minute, heading home a definitive third goal from a left-wing corner delivered by Salah.

With this historic victory, Egypt now leads Group G with 4 points, followed by Iran and Belgium tied with two points each, while New Zealand sits at the bottom of the group with a solitary point.
