    Exclusive JNews Lebanon

Field and diplomatic developments are accelerating across the Lebanese scene, reinforcing expectations that South Lebanon is on the verge of its most perilous escalation phase in months. As attention converges on the strategic Ali Al-Taher heights, intelligence indicates diplomatic and operational arrangements being negotiated between Washington and Tel Aviv, alongside an intense standoff in UN corridors over the future of UNIFIL forces.

Ali Al-Taher: Decisive Battle Awaits US Clearance

Senior Lebanese security sources following field and diplomatic developments closely told JNews Lebanon that a decisive battle scenario at Ali Al-Taher heights is now strictly a matter of time. The sources indicated that military escalation remains tied to a mutually agreed “zero hour” between Israeli and American sides, amid ongoing Israeli efforts to enforce a new geo-military reality through unprecedented modifications in occupied areas and infrastructure destruction.

This coincides with behind-the-scenes maneuvering at the UN Security Council. Exclusive diplomatic insights obtained by JNews reveal that a majority of Council members voiced explicit support for Lebanon’s official request to extend UNIFIL’s mandate. However, this consensus collided with a firm stance from the US delegate, who raised explicit reservations aligned with Israeli pressure to curtail the UN role or modify rules of engagement.

Aoun Emphasizes Monopoly on Arms; Berri Warns Against Vacating South

On the political front, as public attention turns to the key speech delivered this afternoon by Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri marking the 48th anniversary of Imam Musa Sadr’s disappearance (following consultative talks held on the eve of the event with long-time ally former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Joumblatt), JNews Lebanon has learned that Berri will focus heavily on the scale of the ongoing crisis in the South due to Israeli violations. He is set to declare explicit opposition to bilateral negotiations and the Framework Agreement following its practical frustration by Tel Aviv, while warning strongly against stripping the South of UN protection and emphasizing the need for an alternative operating strictly under the UN flag.

Meanwhile, President of the Republic Joseph Aoun preempted the commemoration with a major sovereign declaration, recalling Imam Sadr’s legacy in rejecting the notion of the South as a “forgotten region” or a bargaining chip.

“Lebanon reaffirms its complete commitment to the exclusive right of the Lebanese State to hold arms, and to the extension of the Lebanese Army’s authority over all Lebanese territory, in implementation of Resolution 1701 and in defense of Lebanon’s full sovereignty—exactly as Imam Sadr envisioned a state that protects its citizens and does not abandon its south to face danger alone.”

    — President of the Republic Joseph Aoun

Washington Escalates: “Lebanese Government Is the Sole Legitimate Interlocutor”

Along international diplomatic lines, political observers tracking developments for JNews Lebanon interpreted the recent US State Department statement as a preemptive warning ahead of an Israeli military escalation.

Washington reiterated its demands for Hezbollah to fully disarm to ensure Lebanon’s security and sovereignty, affirming authoritatively that the Lebanese government remains the “sole legitimate interlocutor” empowered to negotiate the nation’s future within the US-sponsored tripartite framework.
