    The regional scene today hangs in a delicate balance between the corridors of the White House and the upcoming diplomatic station in the Italian capital, with all eyes on the crucial summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As official Lebanon pins its hopes on the Rome negotiations Framework Agreement talks set for August 4–6 to expand “pilot zones” and secure an Israeli withdrawal, Netanyahu arrives in Washington burdened by complex files and firmly rejecting U.S. demands for military withdrawals from Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza.

Aoun warned that continued Israeli violations and the systematic destruction of southern villages represent blatant breaches of international law that endanger the agreement’s viability, emphasizing that Lebanon will not tolerate practices reminiscent of the destruction witnessed in Gaza.

    On the internal political front, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri maintains deep reservations regarding the current political track, stressing that the absolute priority remains a complete ceasefire and total Israeli withdrawal without direct negotiations, noting that ongoing military actions in the pilot zones reinforce existing doubts.

This has opened the door to serious proposals regarding international and regional monitoring mechanisms to oversee security arrangements.

    The ongoing diplomatic push aims to establish new security arrangements that guarantee the expansion of the Yellow Line zone in the South, awaiting clarity on whether President Trump will enforce the withdrawal timeline on Netanyahu or allow room for a fresh wave of escalation.
