Sources close to Ain el-Tineh have revealed exclusively to JNews Lebanon the scale of the “profound shock” experienced by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri regarding the timing of the latest US sanctions, which directly targeted his tightest logistical inner circle.
According to these well-placed sources, the shock stems from the fact that Washington had been sending continuous diplomatic messages through its envoys up until just fifteen minutes before the official release of the sanctions list. These eleventh-hour communications highly praised Berri’s political wisdom and commended his historical role in mitigating the hardline stances of the Shia duo while actively preventing sectarian strife.
The sources noted that it has now become clear to Ain el-Tineh that this high-level diplomatic praise was merely a calculated “anesthetic” designed to blindside leadership and conceal the direct sting of the incoming US sanctions.
