The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed in an official statement that defender Nico Schlotterbeck has suffered a medial collateral ligament tear in his ankle, an injury that will sideline him for several months.
The Borussia Dortmund center-back sustained the injury just 13 minutes into the match, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Germany. Schlotterbeck’s ankle twisted awkwardly during a challenge; however, he bravely played on until halftime despite being in visible pain.

Despite the devastating injury news, Die Mannschaft has already secured the top spot in Group E, successfully booking their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Germany is scheduled to wrap up their group-stage campaign against Ecuador in New Jersey on June 25.
